Downtown Partnership Announces Sports Park Social Happy Hour

Kicking off the spring season, the Louisville Downtown Partnership (LDP) announced a new social event in Downtown Louisville, Sports Park Social. The weekly event, hosted in the 600 block of W. Washington St., will run in tandem with league play at Baird Urban Sports Park.

Sports Park Social will commence on March 15 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. and take place every Wednesday and Thursday night through May 18 with a hiatus occurring the weeks of April 3 and May 1. During the event, W. Washington St., from N. 6th and N. 7th Streets, will be closed to motorized vehicles, allowing Downtown residents, employees, and guests to enjoy food and drink vendors and watch Pickleball and wiffle ball play.

“By activating Washington Street for this new social event, we hope to offer additional fun and engaging opportunities to those participating in league play and encourage more residents, workers, and visitors to experience this vibrant sports park atmosphere,” said Rebecca Fleischaker, executive director of Louisville Downtown Partnership, in a news release. “These kinds of activations that allow the community to come together are important to engage with our environment and each other in a fun and unique way.”

Each week at Sports Park Social, a local on-site food vendor and local brewer Against the Grain will offer food choices and beer for purchase. The event, which is free and open to the public, is part of an effort to increase the offering of weeknight activities in the Downtown community.

“We are excited to participate in this spring’s Sports Park Social events,” said Sam Cruz, co-founder and managing member of Against the Grain Brewery. “Being able to share our good times with attendees and participants in the Pickleball and wiffle ball games really aligns with our commitment to the community and sharing our good times with everyone.”

Returning this year, Pickleball and wiffle ball league play at Baird Urban Sports Park begins on March 15. Both teams will play eight games including league playoffs and championship rounds.
