Hey Monkey Wrench Veterans, It’s Time for a Reunion at Awry

The Monkey Wrench, once one of Louisville’s favorite bars, is back.

Well, sort of. It’s a one-night-only reunion at Awry Brewing, which of course is in the same building at 1025 Barrett Ave. where the Monkey Wrench called home for quite a few years. The date of the reunion is Friday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m. Live music is on the bill, as well as a beer brewed specially for the event.

Dennie Humphrey, Megan Cain, Ashley Angel and the old crew from the Monkey Wrench will be on hand to relive the memories and to celebrate the years of the Monkey Wrench Bar with Awry Brewing. Former regulars, of course, are invited.

The Facebook event description reads, “For locals this is a very special and possibly once in a lifetime event to get all the same people back at the same place with live music, libations, friends and introducing a very special craft beer release of The Left Handed Monkey Wrench, a collaboration with Awry Brewing and Hi-Wire Brewing made right there on the site of the former location of the Monkey Wrench Bar.”

The distinctive-looking corner building that was the home of the Monkey Wrench, of course, was later home to V-Grits and Chimera Brewing prior to V-Grits moving to Logan Street Market early last year. The Monkey Wrench closed in 2017; Awry opened last year.

For a look back, here’s an article I wrote about the Monkey Wrench’s fried chicken 10 years ago.
