Kentucky Humane Society Takes in 30 Neglected Cats, Seeks Donations
From the Kentucky Humane Society:
Yesterday, the Kentucky Humane Society took in 30 of 176 cats who were rescued last week from an appalling large-scale neglect situation in Mississippi. The cats were found in filthy, fly and flea-infested conditions throughout three residences owned by one individual.
Many of the 176 cats were tragically living in stacked, cramped and rusty wire cages while others were loose, hiding behind furniture and debris. Litterboxes were overflowing with feces and many of the cats had no apparent access to water with empty, dry bowls in their crates. Others were suffering from upper respiratory infections, skin conditions and eye issues.
The Humane Society of the United States and Mississippi Animal Rescue League assisted the City of Crystal Springs with the rescue after law enforcement served a search and seizure warrant on the properties. The cats were moved to a temporary shelter, where they are receiving much-needed care while awaiting transport to shelters like KHS to be adopted.
We are so grateful that we were able to transport 30 of these sweet kitties to KHS, where they can receive the care they need to heal and be adopted into a loving home. Despite their terrible ordeal, many are eager to be petted and held by our staff.
Giving these animals their second chance is only possible because of generous supporters like you. Your gift makes our lifesaving work in tragic situations like these possible. Please donate today so we can continue to be there for deserving animals like these wonderful cats.
