Louisville placed 33rd in a new study in search of the 200 Best U.S. Cities for Sandwich Lovers.

Lexington placed 21st in the study by Lawn Love and released this week ahead of National Sandwich Day, which is Nov. 3. New York City, unsurprisingly, was at the top of the list, receiving a 48.32 composite score based on three categories. New Orleans, Washington, St. Louis and San Francisco fill out the top five, respectively.

For each of the 200 biggest U.S. cities, Lawn Love gathered publicly available data on several factors and then grouped those factors into three categories: Access, Quality, and Interest. Next, it calculated weighted scores for each city in each category and then averaged the scores for each city across the three categories. The city that earned the highest average score was ranked “Best” (No. 1), while the city with the lowest was ranked “Worst” (No. 200).

Louisville ranked an impressive No. 17 in the Access category, which is based on the number of places serving sandwiches per square mile. The Quality category was compiled based on various awards for sandwiches, online reports, consumer reviews and more – Louisville ranked 38th.

The third category, Interest, was based simple on the average monthly Google searches for "Sandwich Shop Near Me" and "Best Sandwich Near Me" over the past year. In that category, Louisville came in at No. 51.

Let’s face it – Louisville does have some pretty good sandwich spots: Crave, Torino’s Sandwich Bar, The Café, The Table. And many other favorite restaurants and taverns, while not necessarily specializing in sandwiches, offer some pretty delicious options too.

Nearby, Indianapolis ranked 16th in the study with a 19.32 score, while Cincinnati ranked 77th with an 8.78 score. Nashville ranked 30th at 15.71.
