Mexican Pizza Will Return to Taco Bell — Just Not Anytime Soon

As I wrote in a previous post about Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza, consumer outrage essentially forced the chain restaurant to return the beloved pizza to its menu after a long hiatus. And then, thanks apparently to supply chain issues and customer demand, the popular item was removed yet again. Taco Bell promises it will return — just not anytime soon.

So popular is the Mexicam Pizza that Taco Bell set up an FAQ page to keep people informed. It vaguely says the pizzas will return “this fall.” That’s a wide window. But it sounds like the chain doesn’t plan to bring it back until it can stick around for the long haul going forward.

“As soon as we’re able to get the Mexican Pizza back in the hands and stomachs of our biggest fans, it’ll be for good,” the company wrote. And it will be with all the original ingredients, so don’t expect a change.

Apparently, it’s all about getting supplies of the right ingredients — seasoned beef and refried beans between two fried flour tortillas, topped with pizza sauce, three-cheese blend and diced tomatoes — because, let’s face it, Mexican Pizza fans aren’t going to settle for anything else.

Also, the demand apparently was much larger than anticipated: “Demand for the Mexican Pizza was seven times higher than when it was last on menus, and replenishing the beloved menu item is taking longer than we’d like.”

What can Mexican Pizza fans do in the meantime? Maybe try the new Toasted Cheddar Chalupa? And wait.

“If the last two years have taught us anything,” Taco Bell wrote, “it’s that literally nothing can emotionally take the place of the Mexican Pizza for some of our fans.”
