It sure looks like this bourbon craze isn’t going away, but if you’re late to the party it can seem like a daunting endeavor to get caught up. Luckily, for those who are curious about bourbon, Indiana University Southeast has a class that can help you get started in joining in the fun.
Led by journalist and author Susan Reigler, who has seven books about whiskey to her credit, “Bourbon - An Introduction for the Inquisitive Drinker” is set for March 12, 19, 26 & April 2 from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. the month-long course will culminate in a distillery (destination TBA) on April 9.
Reigler, who is also a Certified Executive Bourbon Steward and a member of the Order of the Writ, will take students through the history of bourbon, America’s native version of whiskey, and what it has meant to the foundation of the country. Today, it is a prime economic driver in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. In addition to learning about bourbon’s heritage, attendees will learn how it is made and experience weekly tastings.
Tuition for the course, which includes materials and the distillery visit, is $320. Only people 21 and older can register, and the deadline to register is March 4. Those interested can register online.
