Silver Dollar Welcomes Back Former Chef, General Manager

The Silver Dollar is welcoming the return of Chef Tyler Powell, and General Manager Nick Wilson. Wilson is a Louisville restaurant industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience including Seviche and Hammerheads.

Joining him is Chef Tyler Powell, who is back at the Silver Dollar after 6 years in North Carolina as the Chef of Kimball’s Kitchen in the Outer Banks and Executive Chef of Steam and Cloud 9 at the Wilmington Riverfront. Shawn Cantley, who founded the Silver Dollar with Larry Rice in 2011, is back in a primary role, and Rice sold his interest to Richard Rigney, the owner of Clarendon Flavors, which creates flavors for many of the world’s top spirits companies.

“It’s great to finally be back to being the place we were for years prior to the pandemic. We’re back to being a full-service restaurant. Most of the old favorites like the Chicken & Waffles are back,” Cantley said in a news release. “And, of course, we still have the most highly-curated backbar of Kentucky bourbons and ryes in the world and classic honkey tonk records on the turntable.”

The “Modern day honky tonk” restaurant and bar includes Southern favorites with a Mexican influence, more than 300 Kentucky whiskeys and one of the top proprietary single barrel bourbon programs in America.

The most nationally acclaimed bourbon bar and restaurant in Kentucky, The Silver Dollar won the Spirited Award at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans for Best American Restaurant Bar, and was named as one of the 10 Best Whiskey Bars in America by GQ.  It has also been featured in many other national media outlets like Southern Living, Garden & Gun, and Playboy to The New York Times, Chicago Sun-Times, and L.A. Times.

The Silver Dollar is located at 1761 Frankfort Avenue.  For more information, visit https://www.whiskeybythedrink.com/.
