West Sixth Brewing announced the return of its Big Beers event – in both Louisville and Lexington – on Feb. 19. Big Beers, which last was held in 2019, will showcase high-gravity brews like barrel-aged imperial stouts, ales and barleywines.

The respective taprooms will open at 11 a.m. that day, with Big Beer tastings beginning at 4 p.m. and continuing until 8 p.m. Beers on tap will include everything from West Sixth classics to first-time specialty brews.

Here’s how it works: With your ticket, West Sixth provides a five-ounce glass and a passport that affords you tastings of five different beers of your choice. You keep the glass, and the rest is up to you in selecting from what the brewery has billed as a “MASSIVE lineup of barrel-aged and high gravity dark and boozy beers from the cellars.”

One example is Snakes on Fire, a barrel-aged imperial stout brewed with smoked peppers, coffee, vanilla, cinnamon, lactose, cacao and Smoked Sea Salt (13% ABV); another to get in line early for is Peanut Butter Snake Cake, a barrel-aged imperial stout made with roasted peanuts, vanilla bean and chocolate. Both come in ad a hefty 13% ABV. (Full tap list is below.)

Some of the beers will be available for crowler sales to-go, so you can potentially take home some favorites, while the smaller batches won’t. Choose wisely when deciding on your tasters.

“We're really excited to host Big Beers at West Sixth Nulu for the first time,” Kaitlyn Colberg, General Manager at West Sixth Nulu, said. “This has always been one of our most popular and fun events to host in the past. It's a really cool way to taste a lot of our really rare beers at the same time; it's also a super fun way for us to showcase our Barrel-Aging program that we have been continuing to expand.”

Advance tickets are $15 and can be purchased at Eventbrite for the NuLu location and here for Lexington; admission the day of the event is $20.
