Well, that didn’t take long. Ramiro’s Cantina announced an appreciative farewell last week to its location on Frankfort Avenue, where it had done business for 15 years. The business, which will still do business in a new spot in Jeffersonville, enjoyed its last day in Clifton this past Friday.

As of today, The Yellow Cactus, which bills itself an “American Steakhouse and Mexican Restaurant” is open for business in that same location.

The restaurant’s website has posted an extensive menu packed Mexican staples like fajitas, burritos, quesadillas and tacos, and also dinners such as Tilapia Acapulco, Pollo Veracruz, Pollo De Light and Choripollo. Steaks include choices from a “Fiesta” ribeye, sirloin or t-bone, plus specialty steak dishes like carne asada strips and Vaca Feliz. For those looking for an affordable lunch spot, The Yellow Cactus offers a selection of eight basic Mexican combos priced at $7.99 each. Speedy Gonzalez lovers are in luck.

The Yellow Cactus has a current restaurants at 9111 Galene Dr. in Louisville and at 3620 Paoli Pike in Floyds Knobs. The new Clifton location’s hours are Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

And if its barbecue you crave instead of Mexican food, well, you’re in luck there as well. Right next door, another new eatery has quietly opened: The Smokery Smokehouse Bar and Grill. In the small spot that once was home to Matt Anthony’s Record Shop, and recently had a very brief run as a tavern called the Dark Horse, there’s now a dining room setting, with a smoker out back that was stirring smoke and delicious smells on Wednesday morning.

The menu, by Chef Giovanni Tenace (Le Moo, Roc Restaurant, Dark Horse) is loaded: Pulled pork, chicken and brisket sandwiches, tacos and sliders; baby back ribs, and a Wagyu burger are the meat selections. But the chef-driven menu offers a wide variety of other considerations, as well. Appetizers include Texas armadillo eggs, truffle fries, house-made corn fritters and smoked gouda mac. A pair of salads can be topped with any smoked meat or, for a $12 upcharge, lobster.

The gouda mac also can be a side or a meal, which can be topped with your choice of smoked meat or the lobster option. Desserts include tiramisu and bread pudding.

The Smokery is open daily 4-10 p.m.
